SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: NaturalAnnie Essentials

NaturalAnnie Essentials has good vibes and good scents.
It’s based in Bridgeport, but the candles can be found in homes all over the world.
“We use soy-based wax, cotton wicks, and very clean burning scents for our candles, and you will find when you burn one of our candles you will immediately see the difference, you get that immediate scent from the candle and you will smell it from way over in the other part of your house and you’ll find that it’s a much higher quality so it lasts for a much longer time,” said Annya White-Brown.
Annya started the company in 2014 as a solution for her daughter.
“She was born with a condition called spina bifida and hydrocephalus. So after a number of surgeries her skin started to break out so as a new mom, I started to freak out, throwing out all of the chemically infused products in the house. Like let me clean up, let me get clean, and started making natural body products for her skin,” Annya said.
She says it wasn’t until 2018 customers started asking for candles, “and they loved it.”
Annya says they made the business decision to do candles full-time, and never looked back.
“We offer a variety of scents and we kind of break them down by collection. So, if you’re into more of the food scented candles, we have a baked collection of candles that replicates what the food smells like, or our signature collection is our island vibes collection and that was inspired by my background, I was born and raised in Jamaica,” Annya said. “So, I pulled from my heritage to kind of blend these scents so you’ll find that they’re more tropical, some fruity, very fresh and clean, it will make you want to take a vacation. I promise you that.”
Annya says the feedback has been tremendous, and a lot of it is coming from TikTok, something else she’s having fun doing with her family.
